Tom T. Hall was born on 25 May 1936 in Olive Hill, located in Kentucky, United States. During his teenage days, Tom T Hall invented a band named the Kentucky Travellers that entertained people before movies for a mobile theatre.

Tom performed over the Armed Forces Radio Network, during a time in the army and composed comic songs about his experiences in the military. After his service in the military, Tom T Hall used the program of G.I. Bill to join in Roanoke College, where he operated as a D.J. Tom’s early career comprised of being a radio presenter at WRON, which is a local radio station at Ronceverte, West Virginia. Tom also worked as a presenter at WSPZ that later converted to WVRC Radio in Spencer, West Virginia in 1960.

Tom made his big songwriting breakthrough in the year 1963, after Jimmy C. Newman, a country singer, recorded his song, dubbed “D.J. for a Day.” Back in the year 1964, Tom relocated to Nashville and began working as a ‘New keys Music’ songwriter. New keys were a publishing syndicate belonging to Newman and Jimmy Key, his business associate, and he used to write up to six-country songs in a single day. Tom was nicknamed “The Storyteller” and has since written songs for most country music artists comprising Johnny Cash, Loretta Lynn, Alan Jackson, and Bobby Bare.

One of Tom’s earliest successful songwriting investments, “Harper Valley PTA” was recorded back in 1968 musician named Jeannie C. Riley. They sold over six million copies and was number one hit on the Billboard Hot 100.

Tom made his recording career debut following Riley’s rendition of Harper Valley PTA, producing several hit songs from late 1960 throughout to early 1980. Some of Tom’s most prominent hits comprise “A Week in a Country Jail,” “I Love,” among others.
