Sally Jessy Raphael was born as Sally Lowenthal on 25 February 1935 in Easton, Pennsylvania, United States. She is daughter to Jesse Lowenthal and Zelda Lowenthal (aka Dede Lowry). Her father worked as a rum export businessman, whereas her mother ran an art gallery she has a young brother named Stephen Lowenthal. Sally Jesse Raphael spent time with her family in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Sally Jessy Raphael attended Easton Area High school, where she finally graduated.
Sally Jesse Raphael spent a better part of her teenage years in Scarsdale, New York. While living in New York, Sally Jesse Raphael worked at an AM local Radio Station called WFAS. The radio used to air a program meant for junior Highschool students.

In 1953 when Sally Jesse Raphael was 18 years old, she got married to Andrew Vladimir. The two sired two daughters, namely; Allison and Andrea. In 1958, Sally and Andrew Vladimir divorced.
In 1962, Sally Jesse Raphael later married Karl Soderland. They have an adopted son.
On 2 February 1992, Sally’s daughter Allison who was then 33 years old, died. Her death was as a result of an overdose, which she did accidentally.
Presently, Sally Jesse Raphael resides in Dutchess County, New York. She nurses her husband Soderland, who has Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease.

Soderland was the manager of the radio station.
