Rhonda Vincent was born on July 13, 1962, in Kirksville, Missouri, to parents Johnny and Carol. She was raised nearby at Greentop. She was the oldest of the three siblings and the only girl. Her brother Darrin is a Grammy Award-winning performer in the bluegrass group Dailey and Vincent. Her younger brother Brian is no longer a professional musician. Rhonda’s musical career began while she was just five years old.
In the beginning, she sang gospels in the family band’s “Sally Mountain Show.” Johnny got a snare drum on her sixth birthday, and by the age of ten, she was already good at playing the mandolin and guitar. She stated that she has fond memories of her and her grandfather playing songs after dinner almost every night. In 1970, she recorded her first single, which was a version of the “Mule Skinnier Blues.”
