Perry was born Peretz Bernstein on 29 March 1959, and his birthplace is Queens, New York. He commenced his education at Woodmere, Long Island and later moved with his family to Florida’s North Miami Beach when he was a teenager.
Farrell was born in a Jewish family where his father worked as a jeweller, and his mother was an artist. His mother committed suicide when Perry was three years old, and he sang about this event in the songs “Twisted Tales”, and “Then She Did”.
