Michael Joseph Piazza was born on September 4, 1968, in Norristown, Pennsylvania, to his parents Vince and Veronica Piazza. He spent most of his childhood days in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, and went to the Phoenixville Area High School.

Mike Piazza started his career as a professional baseball player in 1988 when the Los Angeles Dodgers drafted him in the 62nd round of the 1988 MLB amateur draft. In 1992, he made his MLB debut against the Chicago Cubs and hit his first home run against Steve Reed of the San Francisco Giants.
