The singer was born on November 07, 1942, in New York City, New York, the United States to Nancy Guaccero Ramistella and John Ramistella. John belongs to Italian ancestry. The family lives in New York, but they moved to Baton Rouge, Louisiana. At age eight, he learned to play guitar from his father and uncle. In high school, the artist joined a music band named The Rockets, which was led by Dick Holler, and he wrote several hit songs like Abraham, Martin, and John, the novelty song and Snoopy vs. the Red Baron.

At age 14, he formed his band the Spades. He was studying in Baton High School. In early 1956, Johnny Rivers worked with the Suede label. The singer received advice to change his name to Johnny Rivers from Alan Freed. Later he helped John to receive a contract from Gone Label. The artist released three records from March 1958 to March 1959. The records did not perform well. In 1959, the artist returned to Baton Rouge and started working as musicians in American South with comedian Brother Dave Gardner. The singer began working as a songwriter and demo singer.

  5. Love Johnny Rivers, but I went to a concert of his in Calhoun Georgia and the first thing he did was to tell everybody not to sing along with him. Kind of killed the show. Make him seem pompous.

    Happy Birthday, sorry missed the 7th seeking medical attention Mule Vs. me.Alls well can almost walk again.I woke from resting tonight and wanted to play my theme song to get it going [ Secret Agent Man ] it worked as usual. While reading your bio, I found we have some things in coincidence.
    Baton Rouge , was there in 75 with a friend on the run and caught the last day of festivities in New Orleans. only stayed 4-5 days as returned to obligations.Left my .06 with the family to cover expenses. New York City, unfortunate.Spent most of my life in the metro area,mama told me not to come back when I went to the Army in 72.She was right,nothing for gentleman here.Spent 45 years finding that out.Oh yes and ofcourse the troubles for the family which started in 1962.and never ended.
    So glad your still in the fight.You Are the Man!!!!!!!!!!

  7. Saw Johnny tonight at the Commerce Casino in Los Angeles. His show was awesome. He made everything seem so effortless and put on an excellent show. Never realized how many songs he made popular until tonight, and he sang them all. If you go to his show, you won’t be disappointed.
