On January 1, 1958, joseph saddle was born in Bridgetown, Barbados. His parents later emigrated to the united states from Barbados. Grandmaster was raised in the Bronx, New York City, and attended Samuel Gompers high school, which is a public vocational school, and he learned how to repair electronic equipment. His father was a fan of the Caribbean and African American recording; both his parents played an important role in his interest in music.
