Frank Fritz hails from Davenport, Iowa, the United States where he was born to a construction company worker mother, Susan Zirbes. Not much is known about his father as his parents parted ways when Frank was a child, and his mother married a tire salesman named Dick Zirbes.

Sudlow Intermediate School, which Frank Fritz attended as a child, played an important role in shaping his future and interests. It was in this school where Frank 1st developed a penchant for collecting little everyday things that nobody seemed to care about and met his fellow collector and future partner Mike Wolfe. The duo got together like a ‘cauldron on fire’, thanks to their shared interests and went on to attend Bettendorf High School after leaving Sudlow Intermediate School.

He often used to cross paths with fellow collector Mike Wolfe during several of his collecting expeditions.

Eventually, Mike shared the idea of a TV show that had formed in his mind some years ago and convinced Frank to give it a shot. With the help of Mike’s producer friend Justin Anderson they recorded a sample video of their exploits and pitched their idea to various television networks. Finally, in 2010, History Channel picked their idea and came up with ‘American Pickers’, a show that not only made Frank Fritz and Mike Wolfe overnight celebrities but also added to the long list of successful shows on History Channel.
