Early Life & Biography
Chan was born in Francisco, California. His father Pak-sum Chan is a former minister at the Leighton Road Baptist Church in Hong Kong, recent immigrants and his mother Wan-bing Mui, was a bible woman of the Hong Kong Baptist Church, Caine Road. They were three siblings Grace, Paul, and Chan was the third child. Unfortunately, his mother died during his birth for excessive bleeding, which resulted in him being named a city of his birth and of the tragedy” Francis.”
He grew up at his grandmother’s place in Hong Kong who raised him, and by then, his father remarried Amy Law, and they got a child together by the name of Gloria. In 1976, his stepmother got an automobile accident and died when he was barely eight years old. After the tragedy, his father remarried again to Josephine Leung, who raised all the four kids in a godly way, binding to Christian values.
The family got financial support from Chan’s aunt, his father’s youngest sister Marion and her husband, William Wong. Chan got a position in Chatsworth, California, at the church at Rocky Peak as a youth pastor immediately after his seminary degree. He later left that church position to work in a restaurant, waiting tables. He landed other jobs in various places like Taco Bell, Mic Pizza, Kirby Company, Ralphs Market, Broadway Men’ Clothing, hardwood flooring contractors before becoming a senior pastor.
In 1994, Chan and Lisa, his wife, together with 30 other people, founded Cornerstone Community Church. Luckily enough within two months, the congregation had increased up to 100 members, and by 2000 it had received official approvals for building expansion due to his increased attendance. He started Eternity Bible College with 100 students, which focused on a ministry of Cornerstone Community Church.
In the year 2008, his church was one of the largest churches in Ventura County and launched an abroad program in Ecuador with Eternity, and after a year, he managed to have 47 graduates serving globally. In 2010, he resigned from the cornerstone to pursue what God had laid on his heart.
In the year 2016, he served as an ambassador to care for children. He was featured speaker in a Stop and Think video and also spoke at the Chinese mission convection in Baltimore, Maryland.
