Eike Batista, whose full name is Eike Fuhrken Batista da Silva, was born on the 3rd of November 1956 in Governador Valadares, Minas Gerais, Brazil, to parents, Eliezer Batista and Jutta Fuhrken. His father had previously served as the Minister of Mines and Energy in the João Goulart and Fernando Collor administrations and was a former president of Companhia Vale do Rio Doce (now, Vale) as well.
His family moved to Europe when he was a teenager, although the family has also lived in Geneva, Düsseldorf, and Brussels. Coming to his education, he has studied mechanical engineering at the University of Aachen in Germany, but he didn’t complete his engineering and chose to drop out.
