David Boes was born on March 11, 1941, in Sycamore, Illinois, in a farming community. His parents were teachers. He has dyslexia and found it difficult to read or write. Boies’s mother used to read stories to him, and he used to memorize it as he could not follow the words in the book.
When he was 13 years old, his family moved to California, where he attended Fullerton Union High School.
