His father, Dennis, was jailed for not providing child support to his former wife and, after nine days, hanged himself in his cell. After that, his mother dated several men who abused all three of them. His mother married Tim O’Dea, who introduced Danny and his brother to the world of skateboarding and surfing. The couple eventually divorced, and Tim died after a surfing session.
