Bonnie Lynn Raitt was born on 8th November 1949 in Burbank, California. She comes from Scottish ancestry with her ancestors credited with the construction of Rait Castle in Scotland in the 13th century.

Bonnie was born in a family of musicians with her father, John Raitt, being a Broadway musician while her mother was a pianist. She started playing guitar at an early age, where she mostly played in school.
