Vickie Ann Lawrence was born as Vicki Ann Axelrad on 26 March 1949 to parents Anne Alene and Howard Axelrad in Inglewood, California, the U.S.  By profession, her father is a certified public accountant who used to work for Max Factor. When Vickie was young, her family’s surname was legally changed to “Lawrence.” She went to UCLA while also working on “The Carol Burnett Show” but dropped out two years later.

In high school, in her senior year, she competed in the Miss Fireball of Inglewood contest for the local fire-fighter’s ball.  A local reporter’s story about the event mentioned how similar Vickie looked in comparison with a young Carol Burnett.  On being told by her mother, she wrote a letter to Carol Burnett, including the article. On reading the letter, Carol told Vickie’s father that she would attend the contest.

Lawrence won the contest, and Carol was called on to the stage to crown her. As it so happens, Carol was already looking for an actress to play her younger sister on the “The Carol Burnet Show.”  She auditioned for the role and got the part.
