Uwe was born in 1965 in Germany. Uwe has never revealed anything about his childhood and early years, and we know nothing except the fact that he was deeply interested in the field of filmmaking from age as young as ten.
Uwe was educated in Germany. He started producing short films from his own pocket during his college days. Later, he decided to pursue film directing in Munich and Vienna. Ultimately, he bagged a doctorate in literature from the University of Cologne.

Uwe decided to start his professional career as a film critic. But he did not find interest in this field, and later in 1991, he became a filmmaker with the movie German Fried Movie. This movie was written, directed, and produced along with Frank Lustig.
Frank and Uwe failed to get any outside help, due to which they ultimately decided to establish their production and distribution company which they named Bolu Filmproduktion Und Verleigh. It was from here that they released German Fried Movie. In 1993, they released another film named Barschel- Mord in Genf.
After the release of their second film, the duo realised that it was no use in keeping up the production house, and so the partnership broke up. Uwe now went ahead solo, and he wrote, directed, and produced a film called Amoklauf. Although it failed to get critical appreciation, it premiered in Berlin in 1994.
He directed and produced his fourth and last film (in Germany) named Das Erste Semester.
Uwe moved to Canada and established a production company named Uwe KG – in 2000. Soon, he co-produced his first film in the English language called Sanctimony.
In 2003, he decided to do something different and started making movies based on video games. He released his movie House Of The Dead. Although it failed to receive critical appreciation, it earned $13.8 million and even accepted the sixth position at the box office in the opening weekend.
He made two more movies based on video games- Alone In The Dark and BloodRayne. Again, both these movies became a failure- even at the box office.
