Todd Harry was born in Philadelphia. He was the son of Ruth, and his father, Harry W. Rundgren, was of Swedish descent. He was raised at the Upper Darby, a bordering town where he started teaching himself with some little help on how to play guitar. During his childhood, he was enticed by his parent’s record collection, which consisted of show tunes and Symphonic pieces mainly operettas of Gilbert and Sullivan.

He developed interest by being influenced by the music of the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, the Ventures, the O’Jays, the Yardbirds, the Delfonics, and Philadelphia Soul of Gamble & Huff. He formed his first band titled Money at the age of 17 together with Randy Reed, who was his best friend and a roommate and also Reeds younger brother.

He attended Upper Darby High school, where he graduated in 1966. He began his career in Woodys Truckstop, a blues-rock group in the style of Paul Butterfield Blues Band immediately at Philadelphia. After eight months, the band became the most popular group in Philadelphia, but later they he left the band. In 1967, Todd and Carson Van Osten, his bassist, released their first album, which formed the Rock band Nazz. As a member of Nazz, he paved his way to songwriting and Local Arranger, which determined the equal of the artistry of the Beatles.

Todd was in a relationship with Bebe Buell, who was a model. Later they broke up, and Bebe dated Steven Tyler, who they ended up having a child together, Liv Tyler. Buell claimed that Liv’s father was Todd, which changed his name from Tyler to Rundgren, but they later ended their relationship. When Liv was eight years old, he discovered his biological dad was Tyler, but they maintained their close relationship. Todd, later on, married Karen Davin, who they had two sons with, Rex, a minor league baseball player for nine seasons and Randy. The couple later separated.

    • I was wondering about that, too: Hello it’s Mr.” Regardless, I’ve been a fan of Todd’s for 50 years and just wish I could have a chance to photograph him in concert as I have Paul McCartney, Eagles, Alice Cooper, Miranda Lambert and other top-shelf talents that I could name-drop. Photographing Todd would be . . . better than anything . . . and maybe he could play, “Hello, It’s Mr.!”

  3. I am going to see Todd again on November 6th at , MGM in Northfield Ohio Andi seem him several times over the years. I want to send a special request to him to PLEASE sing Love Is The Answer my favorite Todd song, especially in today’s world we could use to hear this song. And it would be a great crowd pleaser. As many times I’ve seen his concerts i can’t recall it being done. This would make this big fan and many others very happy. Thank you

    As a kid I wanted to steal”Gonna Cry Today” such a great tune.
    The Nazz were so melodic and harmonic. He broke his leg in El Paso jumping off the stage.
