Tyler Jeffrey Dillashaw, better known as TJ Dillashaw, was born on 7th February 1986 in Sonora, California. He is the son of Hal and Janice Dillashaw. The UFC fighter was raised in Angels Camp, California. He was schooled at Bret Harte High School, where he joined the school’s wrestling and football teams, respectively.

Dillashaw became a two-time California Interscholastic Federation qualifier, not to mention a four-time sectional qualifier under Coach Jan Schulz.  Moreover, he came in at fifth place with a season’s record of 45-7 at the CIF state championships in his junior year.  He had an overall score of 107-33 during his senior year at the CIF state championships.

Soon after a successful run in high school, he was given a fully pledged sponsorship to wrestle for the Cal State Fullerton Titans. Dillashaw had an equally successful run in college as he was placed in the fourth place in the Pac-10 championships in 2008. He later came in second place at Cliff Keen Invitational.  He finished his senior season at 10th place in the nation at 133 lbs.

Dillashaw’s career as a fighter began when he was still in high school. He was coached by Jan Schulz while at Bret Harte High School. He had a successful running as a wrestler who earned him a full sponsorship to wrestle for Cal State Fullerton Titans.  Dillashaw started training for mixed martial arts soon after graduating from Fullerton.  His former coach, while at Fullerton, Mark Munoz, urged TJ to train at Reign Training Center.
