Tipper Gore was born Mary Elizabeth Aitcheson on August 19, 1948 in Washington DC, United States. Her mother was Margret Ann and her father name was John Kenneth “Jack” Aitcheson who was the owner of J& H Aitcheson Plumbing Supply and also a plumbing supply entrepreneur.
She grew u in Arlington, Virginia with her grandmother and her mother taking care of her since her parents divorced. She went to a private Episcopal School in Alexandria, Virginia called St. Agnes School. She later enrolled at Garland Junior college then was transferred to Boston University where she graduated in 1970 with a B.A in psychology.
Then in 1975 she graduated from Vanderbilt University, George Peabody College with master’s degree in psychology.

Then in 1976 she started to support her husband Gore with his campaign for the United States House of Representatives. When her husband got elected, she stated a group to write and examine all the social issues and it was called “The Congressional Wives Task Force”.
In 1985 Tipper was a co-founder of Parents Music Resource Centre (PMRC) alongside Susan Baker, Pam Howar, Sally Nevius and the wife of the then Unite states secretary of treasury James Baker. The organisation was aimed at advocating for placing advisory labels on music especially on punk, heavy metal an hip-hop.
She decided to take a step after she heard her year old daughter singing Darling Nikki by Prince. While some people were in support, there were others who criticised the group stating that it was a form of sponsorship.
In the year 1990 Gore founded the Tennessee Voices for children in order to advance substance abuse and youth service for mental health. She also helped her husband in the 1988 presidential bid helping him to tour together with Hillary Clinton and Bill Clinton during their 1992 presidential campaign.
