Till was born in Leipzig. His father, Werner Lindemann, has been a poet. His mother Brigitte Hildegard “Gitta” Lindemann had been a journalist who has served for Norddeutscher Rundfunk from 1992 to 2002. Till was raised in Wendisch-Rambow. He has a younger sister named Saskia. When he was 11, he went to Empor Rostock Sports Club that was ranked among the good sports schools of that time. Later, from 1970 to 1980, he also attended a boarding school.
