His parents are Roberta Jackson and Tito Francona who played as an outfielder in several Major League Clubs between 1959 to1970. His childhood years were spent in New Brighton, Pennsylvania where he went to New Brighton area High School.

As the seasons were going on he was shifted to the first base playing more than one hundred games more than when he was in Outfield. He gained recognition for being a contact hitter with les walks, home runs or strikeouts.

After he departed from Red Sox in the year 2011 got employed by Fox network as a substitute colour analyst in the American League championships for the first two games of the American League Championship Series.
