She went to Tri-Cities performing arts high school in East Point, Georgia, where she met Kandi Burruss. Scott, along with her other three friends, formed a short-lived music group. Later, they were auditioned by singer and songwriter Tameka “Tiny” Cottle, and Xscape was officially formed.

Tamika Scott started her career in 1991 when she formed the music group Xscape. They started performing at various local and international events, including at BET’s Teen Summit in 1992. Later, Ian Burke became the group’s manager. Their popularity was increasing, which grabbed the attention of Jermaine Dupri, who signed them to his So So Def Recordings.
In 1993, Xscape released their debut album Hummin’ Comin’ at ‘Cha which peaked at number seventeen on the U.S. Billboard 200 and number three on the Top R&B Albums chart.
