Born on July 12, 1972, Pichai is one of two sons of Lakshmi and Regunatha Pichai. Growing up in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, Pichai attended Jawahar Vidyalaya and Vana Vani school before proceeding to study at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, where he studied metallurgical engineering.
