Steven Patrick Garvey was born on December 22, 1948, in Tampa, Florida. His parents moved to Long Island, New York, when he was a child. During his teenage years, he was a batboy for the Brooklyn Dodgers, New York Yankees, and Detroit Tigers.

Garvey completed his schooling from Chamberlain High School and later attended Michigan State University, where he was part of the college’s football and baseball team. He credits his football coach Duffy Daugherty for helping to become a multi-sport athlete in his choosing MSU.

Garvey scored 114 hits, 22 doubles, 14 home runs, and 59 RBIs in consecutive 100 matches. He made his final appearance in a game in May 1987.

However, he lives well in Palm Desert and we can be glad he’s got some calmness back in his life.
