Stanley Martin Lieber was the son of Jack Lieber and Celia, who gave birth to him in 1922 in the state of New York City. He grew up in Manhattan together with his brother Larry Lieber.

Stan attended DeWitt Clinton High School in 1939 and enrolled in WPA Federal Theatre Project. When he was growing up during his high school years, he used to do some part-time jobs such as writing press releases and obituaries, being an office boy, and a delivery man.

During this time of the Golden age of comic books, he created Father Time and Jack Frost. In 1941 due to disagreements with the company, he threatened to leave and was offered the position of editor-in-chief till 1972 when he became a publisher.

Again working with Kirby, he created Hulk, Thor, Doctor Strange, X -Men, Spider-Man, Iron Man, and Daredevil, whom they all called The Avengers. He wrote many monthly comic books, and last of it before becoming a publisher were Fantastic Four issue 125 dated 1972 august and The Amazing Spider-Man issue number 110 dated 1972 July.
