His music career hit in the mid-1990s after striking a deal with Priority. He released his first debut album, The Shocker, in August 1996. By then, he was using the alias Silkk. After the release of The Shocker, he changed his name to Silkk the Shocker. Silkk featured on Master P’s 1997 album Ghetto D but also released as a single in 1998.
The song that acted as the trademark song for Silkk the Shocker was It Ain’t My Fault, which featured Mystikal. In 1999, Silkk collaborated with Mya on the lead song from his album Made Man. The track titled, Somebody Like Me, became one of the year’s best selling singles on the Billboard Charts. Man-Made was certified platinum by RIAA in 1999 making Silkk a prominent mainstream artist in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
In 2001, Silkk released My World, My Way. The song sold over 200000 copies in its first week, and by July 2004, it had sold 712000 copies in the US. In 2004, he released, Based on a True Story. The song did not generate the same publicity as he enjoyed in the late 1990s.
