Maybe you know about Shin Lim very well, but do you know how old and tall is he and what is his net worth in 2024? If you do not know, we have prepared this article about details of Shin Lim’s short biography-wiki, career, professional life, personal life, today’s net worth, age, height, weight, and more facts. Well, if you’re ready, let’s start.

Early Life & Biography

Born on 25 September 1991 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, Lim was the second of three children of Singapore-born parents. He is of Han Chinese ethnicity. When Lim was 2 yrs, the family moved to Singapore. It was after nine years when Lim was 11 that the family again moved, but this time to the United States and settled in Acton, Massachusetts.

At a very early age, Lim showed interest in music and started off with a violin that his grandmother gifted him. But the instrument failed to appease him, and he broke it during a practice session. Later he started taking lessons in piano. His initial schooling was at Acton-Boxborough Regional High School, and after graduating, as expected, he studied music at the School of Music at Lee University in Tennessee. There he double majored in piano and telecommunications and was a member of the Choral Union ensemble.

Though he studied music, magic was his hobby. His older brother Yi had once shown him a simple card trick. Lim delved into the nitty-gritty of card tricks and started self tutoring using YouTube videos.  Once his skills started to improve, Lim created his own set of magic tricks.

But it was an unfortunate medical condition that determined Lim’s career path. While still studying music, at the age of 20, Lim was diagnosed with carpal tunnel syndrome. He had to take a year’s break from his studies as he could not spend 20 hours practicing piano, given his wrist movements were restricted. During that one year break, Lim started making videos of his own magic tricks and posting them on YouTube.

Personal Life

Shin Lim met his wife Casey Thomas when he was pursuing magic as a career option. She was a helper for another magician when he first met her in Macau, China, in 2015. By profession, she is a dancer and is an Australian by birth. The duo started dating since 2016 before getting engaged on 19 August 2017, when Lim proposed to her in front of a mass audience of 2000 people during his magic show at the House of Magic in Macau. The couple finally married in 2019 in Maui, Hawaii.

Career

Though Lim acknowledges David Blaine’s early television specials as a key inspiration for taking up magic professionally, his enrolling and participating in the 2012 Fédération Internationale des Sociétés Magiques (International Federation of Magic Societies) World Championship was the turning point of his life.

He finished sixth, did not win any prize money, but the win convinced him of his abilities to perform magic. He was still juggling between music and magic when in 2013, an agent who had seen his performance at the World Championship offered him the opportunity to tour across China performing his tricks. It was during this tour that Lim developed his trademark style.

In 2015, he again returned to participate in the Fédération Internationale des Sociétés Magiques World Championship for Close-up Card Magic, winning the title. But like the previous time, this did not help him financially, though it increased his visibility and made him quite popular. Soon after, he was contacted by the producers of Penn & Teller: Fool Us, a show where upcoming magicians attempt to fool hosts Penn & Teller with their tricks. Lim was very impressive on the show. Apart from this appearance, he was invited to perform at the House of Magic in Macau, China, and also contacted by the makers of America’s Got Talent.

When Lim was more or less sure that magic was the way forward, he again unexpectedly injured two tendons on his left hand, bringing him to question his future in the field. But after minor surgery and intensive therapy, he was back on track, and in 2017 on his return appearance on Fool Us, he came across stronger, better, subtler, and won over the hosts and audiences alike.

Post this stint, Lim reconsidered the offer of producers of AGT and was encouraged by his fiancée, Casey. Finally, he was selected for the thirteenth season, and the rest remains history. He won the season and moved on to become a regular at Las Vegas residency in the Terry Fator Theatre at the Mirage Casino Hotel. He won AGT: The Champions as well in 2019.

Lim started tours and shows, appeared on talk shows including The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, and The Today Show. In 2020, Lim made a special guest appearance on the second season of America’s Got Talent: The Champions, playing a cameo in a performance by Marc Spelmann (alias “Magician X”).
