Early Life & Biography

Roger Daltrey was born in the West London suburb of Shepherd’s Bush in the year 1944. A Piscean, Daltrey was one of three children of Harry and Irene Daltrey, a lower-middle-class family. All his childhood Daltrey wanted to earn enough to get rid of this lower-middle-class stature. He was a student of Victoria Primary School and topped his class to be admitted to Acton County Grammar School (where his other two band members Townshend and Entwistle also studied).

Though he had academic potential, Daltrey himself said he “was a school rebel. Whatever they said do, he didn’t do. He was totally anti-everything. He was a right bastard, a right hard nut. He just totally closed the doors to ever wanting to know what they had to teach him. Rock & roll was the only thing he wanted to get into.”

Acton County Grammar School’s headmaster, Mr. Kibblewhite, had told Roger on his 15th birthday that “you’ll never make anything of your life, Daltrey,” after expelling him on disciplinary grounds. This statement stayed with Daltrey for the rest of his life, and in his autobiography, Thanks a Lot, Mr. Kibblewhite, he clarifies that this statement drove him to prove himself to the world and make his passion worthwhile. Personal Life

From a young age, Daltrey had a huge female fan following. At a very early age, in 1964, he married Jacqueline “Jackie” Rickman. The very next year, they had a son and called him Simon. But the marriage lasted for only 3.8 years, with the couple finally divorcing in 1968. Daltrey was involved with quite a few women, and post his divorce, and he fathered a son, Mathias, who was born to him and Swedish model, Elisabeth Aronsson, in 1967. In March 1968, Roger Daltrey met the British model, Heather Taylor. She had earlier dated Jeff Beck and Jimi Hendrix, and the latter dedicated the song Foxy Lady to her.
