Early Life
Born on December 11, 1974, in Chula Vista, California, Rey made his wrestling foray at the tender age of fourteen in Mexico. His uncle, Rey Mysterio Sr. acted as his trainer and taught him the Lucha Libre fighting style which has made him famous. He was given many nicknames such as “La Lagartija Verde,” “Colibrí” before his uncle finally gave him the title of Rey Mysterio Jr, which he has become famous for.

Career
Between 1992-1995 he was a wrestler for Asistencia Asesoría y Administración, in Mexico. He then went on to join, ‘Extreme Championship Wrestling’ and then ‘World Championship Wrestling.’ In the match called the Great American Bash, he lost against his opponent, Dean Malenko. His opponents at the time included Billy Kidman, Juventud Guerrera, Ultimate Dragon and Psicosis whom he defeated in 1996 at the ‘Bash at the Beach.’
Ray won his first Cruiserweight Championship in 1996 against Malenko. He was the reigning champion for a total of three months, holding his title against the likes of Super Caló, Malenko, and Ultimate Dragon. However, he lost to Malenko in the Halloween Havoc and had to forfeit his title. He also lost the J-Crown Championship against Ultimate Dragon in 1996.
He won the Cruiserweight Championship once again in 1997, this time, against Guerrero. However, in the same year, he lost to Guerrero again and had to forfeit the title.
In 1999, Rey was forced to unmask himself in a match against Kevin Nash and Scott Hall. He was heartbroken about it. In 2002, he entered World Wrestling Entertainment with a brand new mask. In 2005, he made Eddie Guerrero his tag team partner and together they won many titles. However, the storyline in Wrestlemania was that Guerrero was secretly envious of Rey’s success. And so Guerrero eventually turned on Rey and even beat him up. All this was to increase ratings.
The storyline also involved a feud between them regarding the custody of Rey’s son Dominic. They wrestled it out, and Rey won the care. Eventually, Guerrero defeated Rey, and that’s when their alleged differences came to an end.
In 2006, Rey won the title of the World Heavyweight Champion. This led to a feud between him and Bradshaw which formed a new storyline for them in the WWE.
In 2009, he challenged Bradshaw in an Intercontinental Championship in which Rey emerged victoriously. He ended up winning the match in a record of twenty-one seconds.
Rey won his first WWE Championship in 2011.
He is at present with Lucha Underground. They signed a deal in 2015.
