Rajinikanth was born on 12 December 1950 in a Maratha family in Karnataka, India. His ancestors were from Maharastra and Tamil Nadu. He was the youngest of four children of his parents. His mother was Jijabai and his father, Ramojirao Gaekwad. His father was a police constable. At the age of eight, he lost his mother. At his tender age, he attended the Acharya Paathshala in Bangalore. Afterward, he completed his high school from the Vivekananda Balaka Sangha.

After passing out from school, he worked as a coolie and carpenter, and later, he started working as a bus conductor in the Bangalore Transport Service. He got first commercial success through the film Billa, a remake of Amitabh Bachchan’s film Don.
