Pete Carroll, whose full name is Peter Clay Carroll, was born to parents Rita Carroll and James Edward Carroll on 15^th of September 1951 in San Francisco, California. He went to Redwood High School, where he was needed to bring a special doctor’s clearance to give a football try out as he was an underweight freshman at the time. Besides football, he played Basketball and Baseball as well during his high school days, and he was awarded the school’s Athlete of the Year during his senior year in 1969. In April of 2009, he was inducted into the Redwood High School Athletic Hall of Fame.

Pete Carroll married Wendy Pearl on the 2^nd of June 1973, but the marriage couldn’t last long as they divorced in 1975. He then married Glena Goranson on the 21^st of May 1976, who he met while working at the University of the Pacific. Glena gave birth to son Brennan Carroll on 20^th March 1979, daughter Jaime Carroll on 12^th April 1982, and son Nathan Carroll on 24^th March 1987. He then tried out for Honolulu Hawaiians that used to compete in the World Football League at the time, but he wasn’t successful.
