Nunez was born on 18 November 1958 in Santa Clara, Cuba. His father is a lawyer and mother, a dentist. He soon moved to Venezuela after his birth and then to the United States. When he was two years old, his family moved to Boston and stayed for two years, and the again moved to Union City, New Jersey. He attended various colleges in New York, which include Fashion Institute of Technology and Parson School of Design for writing. He also is a certified dental technician as he graduated Magna Institute of Dental Technology.
In 1997, he graduated from the Warner Brothers Comedy Writer’s Workshop. In 1999 he became a finalist in the ABC Latino Writes Project.

Nunez started his career in comedy field in New York, by performing over 300 shows along with The Shock of the Funny theatre company. The troupe was already famous in the East Village. He, other than with The Shock Group, appeared in theatre in New York and Washington DC. Later he moved to Los Angeles where he joined another group called Groundlings and performed in their Sunday Company, while he was with them he wrote and starred in a production company called ‘Smooth Down There’.
After graduating from Warner Brothers Comedy Writer’s Workshop in 1998, he appeared on the game show Match Game, but unfortunately, he did not win the game.
Later he became a judge for the 2010 Miss USA Contest. He asked a question to contestant but was booed mid-way, and he asked them to remain calm till he finishes and he also completed his question.
In 2016 he appeared as a regular in the TBS comedy series, People on Earth. In 2018, he portrayed State Farm Insurance, Agent Cole Perez in a series of commercials.
