Nomar Garciaparra was born on 23rd July 1973 in Whittier, California. He was named after his father, Ramon, but his name was spelled from backward. His father was also a baseball player and inspired him a lot and would make him to battle against a college pitcher.

He attended St. John Bosco High School, and after graduating, he was selected by Milwaukee Brewers to participate in their 1991 draft but turned out the offer and instead enrolled in Georgia Institute of Technology.
