Nestle is a multinational food company operating its operations across the world. It is the most abundant food and beverage company around the globe. In terms of revenues and other metrics, Nestle is the largest food company across the world. In 2017, Forbes ranked the company 64 on the Fortune Global 500. The chairman of the c is Paul Bulcke.

The company offers products related to baby food, healing foods, bottled water, breakfast cereals, coffee and tea, dairy products, ice cream, pet foods, and many more.

The company faces criticism for marketing their baby formula as a substitute for breastfeeding. Nestle is a significant shareholder of L’Oreal.

Inception

In 1866, It founded by George and Charles in Cham, Switzerland. The founders were originally from the United States. In 1873, they opened their operation at Chippenham, Wiltshire. The Henri Nestle created a milk product and started marketing. The company merged with milk chocolate inventor Daniel Peter in 1879.

In 1996, the company merged its business with Dryers, which is the United States Ice Cream Business Company. They acquired Chef American for US$2.6 billion in the same year. They bought several other brands like San Pellegrino, D’Onofrio, Spillers Petfoods, and Ralston Purina. They collaborated with Cadbury to acquired Hershey’s to increase the company.

They acquired Delta Ice Cream for €240 million. Nestle became the most extensive ice maker after receiving the company.  In April 2007, they acquired Gerber for US$5.5 billion. They sold their shares of Alcon to Novartis in 2010.

They start working in nutrition, health & wellness products. Nestle purchased Hsu Fu Chi International for US$1.7 billion.

Evolution

In recent years, Nestle Health Science bought several pharmaceuticals named Vitaflo, CM&D Pharma Ltd., Prometheus Laboratories, and Vital food. They purchased a weight loss program for US$600 million.

They spend nearly $350 million on dermatologist research and development. In 2018, Nestle announced that they would lower 10% sugar in Kit Kat, Yorkie, and Aero. They also reduced sugar content in breakfast cereals in the United Kingdom. In 2017, the company bought back $3.5 billion. They acquired a stake in Blue Bottle in 2017. The company opened ten skincare research centers across the world.

Nestle controls more than 2000 brands. The company offers several products like coffee, bottled water, milkshakes, breakfast cereals, infant foods, soups, sauces, frozen food, and many more. They are adding plant-based products in their portfolio. The organization collaborated with the Salzburg Festival in Austria for 20 years and created Nestle & Salzburg Young Conductors Award. Nestle sponsored tour de France.

The company criticized for not doing proper checks regarding child labor by the Fair Labor Association. Nestle Canada was a raid by Competition Bureau along with Hershey Canada and Mars Canada in 2007. The company sponsored Great Britain Lionesses Women’s Rugby League.

They became the first company to meet the requirement of FTSE4Good Index criteria in full. Universum’s global ranking of Best Employers worldwide ranked the Nestle no 19th position in March 2011.
