Edward Miner Lamont Jr. was born on January 3, 1954, in Washington, DC. He is the son of Edward Miner Lamont and Camille Helene. His mother used to work as a staffer for Estes Kefauver and his father was an economist. At age seven, his family moved to Long Island’s Laurel Hollow. Lamont has two younger sisters.

He attended East Woods School followed by Phillips Exeter Academy. In there, he became the student president of the newspaper called The Exonian. Lamont was also the chairperson of Lamont Digital Systems.

In politics, he was first elected as Greenwich Connecticut’s selectman in 1987. he later served for three terms on the Town Finance Board of Greenwich. Lamont was also the chairperson of the State Investment Advisory Council. In 2006, decided to campaign for the US Senate election and won the primary with 52%.
