Nadya (born Natalie) was conceived in Fullerton, California. Her mother, Angela Vitoria Suleman, was a Lithuanian immigrant who worked as a teacher in a public school, and her father, Edward Doud Suleman, was a restaurant owner and a war veteran. He was from Iraq.
She went to Nogales High School in California and later completed her Bachelor’s degree in child development from California State University, Fullerton.
Nadya married Marco Gutierrez, a produce manager in 1996. They got separated in 2000 following their failed attempts to have children. Their marriage officially ended in divorce in 2008.
In 2001, she had her first child, a boy, Elijah. A year later, she gave birth to a girl named Amerah. With the positive experience that she had, she decided to continue her IVF treatment and gave birth to 4 more kids in the following years.
In 2008, she urged for all her 12 eggs to be implanted in her uterus all at once so that they wouldn’t go waste. Initially, her doctor, Dr. Michael Kamrava, was reluctant, but he eventually had to give in to her obstinance.
