Herrera was born in Bremerton, Washington, on 6 November 1976. He is the middle of three children. He has a younger and an older sister. His parents live in Bremerton. He grew up playing guitar. He got inspired by listening to country and punk rock music. While Herrera was in high school, with friends Andy Husted and Yuri Ruley, he started MxPx with the band’s first performance in his back yard.
