Mary Hart was born on 8th November 1950 in Madison, South Dakota. She was born to her parents Robert and Dorothy Harum. They relocated to Sioux Falls in South Dakota when she was young and later to Denmark when she was a teenager. She can speak a number of languages fluently, including Danish and Swedish.

Hart attended Augustana Academy, which was a boarding school and graduated in 1968. She later attended Augustana College in Sioux Falls, and she graduated in 1972. After graduating, she began a teaching career where she taught English at Washington High School. She only taught for two years, after which she decided to be in television shows in full time. While still teaching, she was also hosting her own talk show on KSFY-TV, which was hosted on NBC.

Mary Hart has been married twice in her life. She first married, Terry Hart, in 1972 but they divorced in 1979 with no child. She later married her current husband, Burt Sugarman, who is a film producer in 1989. Together they had a son, Alec Jay, who was born in 1991. Together they live in Trousdale Estates. She owns two mansions in Montana, and one is of 7,000 square foot home, which is built on 160 acres and was on sale going at 8.8 m, but she later reduced it to 7.9 m.

Mary Hart began her television host career in 1975 when she was hosting at WMT-TV, which was later changed to KGAN. She later joined KMTV and moved to KTVY in 1976, which later changed its name to KFOR-TV, where she was hosting a show, Dannysday, together with Danny Williams. She wanted to leave journalism and was acting as a sales representative of the Yearbook Company and moved to Los Angeles in 1979.

After leaving her job, she became broke again and decided to seek a small role at soap opera called Days of Our Lives. In 1981 she landed another TV host job on NBC, but the show was canceled four months later, which led Entertainment Tonight (ET) to interview her. She was later hired by Entertainment Tonight to co-host a show with Ron Hendren. Later she hosted the show with Robb Weller in 1984, John Tesh in 1986, Bob Goen in 1996, and later Mark Steines in 2004.

After her enrolment at Entertainment Tonight, she made Jay Bernstein her manager, who insured her led at $1 million each as she was known to have shapely legs. While still working with ET, she participated in World Wrestling Federations, where she served as the guest timekeeper.

She also participated in Las Vegas together with David Brenner in singing and dancing, where her voice was recognized and was featured in Tiny Toon Adventures and have also voiced a cartoon show, The Fairly Oddparents. She left the ET show on 5TH August 2010 when it was in the 30th episode. The show called her for a guest appearance on 29th October 2015, where she was interviewed by Nancy O’Dell, the current show host.
