White was born in Leeds, the United Kingdom, on 11 September 1961. He was the third of the four boys born to the English Chef Frank White and Maria-Rosa Gallina. White dropped out from Allerton High School, where he was studying, without any degree, to train himself as a chef. Initially, he trained himself at Hotel St George, Harrogate, and then at Box Tree in Ilkley.
He went to London in 1981 and began his training as a commis with Albert and Michel Roux at Le Gavroche. He trained notable chefs like Gordon Ramsey, Shannon Bennett. Marco has been married three times. His first wife, Alex Arthur, was the daughter of a surgeon from Buckinghamshire. They got married on 8 June 1988 at Chelsea Register Office. Their marriage ended after a short span of 2 years in 1990.
Marco then met a 21-year-old model Lisa Butcher in London. They were engaged shortly in three weeks. They got married at the Brompton Oratory on 15 August 1992. The things between them soured immediately.
