Gladwell was born in Fareham Hampshire England. His father is Graham Gladwell, a mathematics professor from Kent England and his mother Joyce Gladwell, a Jamaican Psychotherapist. He is a Christian where they attended Above Bar Church in Southampton and when in Canada at Gale Presbyterian in Elmira. They lived in rural Canada throughout his childhood. He holds Canadian nationality and belongs to Afro Jamaican ethnicity. His mother was his role model as a writer, and at the age of 6 years, their family relocated from Southampton to Elmira Ontario in Canada.
