Lawrence Gene David was born in a Jewish family in 1947 and is the son of Mortimer Julius David and Rose, who gave birth to him on Sheepshead Bay in the state of New York.
He attended Sheepshead Bay High School and then joined the University of Maryland College Park, where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in history. At the university, that’s where he figured out that he has the skills of a stand-up comedian, but after graduation, he was enlisted in the US Army Reserve.
