Krewella is a popular American electronic dance music band. The band currently consists of the members, Jahan Yousaf and Yasmine Yousaf. In 2012, their debut EP, “Play Hard,” was released exclusively Beatport and days later on other digital platforms. The following year, their debut album, “Get Wet,” was released.

Inception

Krewella was formed by the sisters, Jahan Yousaf and Yasmine Yousaf with producer Kris Trindl in 2007. The father of Jahan Yousaf and Yasmine Yousaf is of Pakistani descent.  Jahan Yousaf, Yasmine Yousaf, and Kris Trindl used to study at the Glenbrook North High School. It was on the 8th of June 2010 that they decided to give up schooling and career to dedicate themselves completely to the success of the band. The three of them have “6-8-10” tattoos to honor the day. The band was signed by the popular Canadian independent electronic music record label, Monstercat, in December of 2011.

Evolution

In 2012, the band’s first song, “Killin’ It,” was released. In the same year, they released the EP, “Play Hard.” The single, “Alive,” which was a part of the EP, captured the top position of the US Dance/Mix Show Airplay chart, and it also placed on the US Billboard Hot 100. The band has headlined various EDM festivals around the globe including, Ultra Music Festival, Electric Daisy Carnival, and Stereosonic.

Their debut album, “Get Wet,” was released in 2013, and it charted in the Top 10 of the US Billboard 200. In September of 2014, it was announced that producer Kris Trindl had parted ways with the band. Kris then filed a lawsuit against Jahan Yousaf and Yasmine Yousaf for $5 million, claiming that he had been released from the band unfairly. The sister countersued, claiming that he had drug and alcohol problems and that he resigned from the band himself.

They settled their lawsuit out of the court the following year. They released the single, “Somewhere to Run” on the 23rd of March 2015.
