Brooks was born on 12TH May 1955 in Shreveport, Louisiana, in the USA. His father, Leon Eric Brooks Jr., had three wives, and he had one sister from his mother. He also had one half-sister and two half-brothers from the other wives of his father, although one was an adopted one. His father owned an oil pipeline and would help him during the holidays.
