Kaká is a popular Brazilian former professional footballer who used to play as a midfielder. Kaká, whose real name is Ricardo Izecson dos Santos Leite, was born on the 22nd of April 1982 in Gama, Federal District, Brazil to parents, Simone dos Santos and Bosco Izecson Pereira Leite. His mother worked as an elementary school teacher while his father is a civil engineer by profession. His younger brother, Rodrigo (a.k.a. Digão), and his cousin, Eduardo Delani, are professional footballers as well.

Digão called him “Caca” when he was young, which eventually evolved into Kaká. When he was seven, his family moved to São Paulo, where he began playing for a local youth club called Alphaville. His performances brought him to the notice of the hometown club, São Paulo FC, who offered him a place in the youth academy.  At 18 years of age, he faced a career-threatening spinal fracture because of a swimming pool accident. However, he was able to make a full recovery, which further increased his faith in God, and since then, he has made regular donations to the church.

Career

Kaká began his career at eight years of age with São Paulo, and at fifteen, he signed a contract and led the São Paulo youth squad to Copa de Juvenil. He made his senior debut for the club on the 1st of February 2001. He had 58 appearances for the club, in which he scored 23 times. In 2003, he signed with Italian club A.C. Milan for a fee of reported €8.5 million. For his performances in his debut season, he was named as the Serie A Footballer of the Year.

His brilliant performances continued, and in 2005, he was named the UEFA Club Football Best Midfielder. For his performances in the 2005-06 season, he was selected in both the UEFA Team of the Year and the FIFPro World XI. In 2007, he was chosen as the FIFA World Player of the Year. In 2009, he joined the Spanish football club, Real Madrid, and played his debut match for the club on the 29th of August 2009. For his 120 appearances for the club, he scored 29 goals and made 32 assists. He left the club and returned to his former club A.C. Milan.

He then joined MLS franchise Orlando City and was loaned to São Paulo for some time. Coming to his International career, he made his debut for the Brazil team on 31st of January 2002. He was a part of the Brazilian national team that won the 2002 FIFA World Cup and also served as the captain of the Brazilian national team that participated in the 2003 CONCACAF Gold Cup. He was included in the Brazilian squad for the 2005 FIFA Confederations Cup. He scored his only goal of the 2006 FIFA World Cup in a match against Croatia for which he earned the Man of the Match Award.
