Kaká, whose real name is Ricardo Izecson dos Santos Leite, was born on the 22nd of April 1982 in Gama, Federal District, Brazil to parents, Simone dos Santos and Bosco Izecson Pereira Leite. His mother worked as an elementary school teacher while his father is a civil engineer by profession. His younger brother, Rodrigo (a.k.a. Digão), and his cousin, Eduardo Delani, are professional footballers as well.
Digão called him “Caca” when he was young, which eventually evolved into Kaká. When he was seven, his family moved to São Paulo, where he began playing for a local youth club called Alphaville. His performances brought him to the notice of the hometown club, São Paulo FC, who offered him a place in the youth academy.
