Joshua Treadwell McCown is a Texan who was born on 4th July 1979. His interest in American football developed while he was a young boy, where he used to train with them. He later joined Jacksonville High School, where he won All-State honorable mention honors while playing as a senior.
After high school, he joined Southern Methodist University, where he progressed with his football career with Mustangs. In his three years of college football with Mustangs, he had 27 touchdowns, 4,022 yards, and 34 interceptions. He later moved to play for Sam Houston State University team for a season before Arizona Cardinals came calling.

His professional career started when Arizona Cardinals drafted him in the 2002 NFL Draft. He went on to play for Cardinals until 2005 when he became a free agent. In 2006, he joined Detroit Lions and lasted for only a season before moving to Oakland Raiders in 2007. Again, like his spell with Lions, after a season, he moved to Miami Dolphins, where he signed a two years contract that was worth $6.25 million. Though named a starter during their pre-season games, he was traded to the Panthers on 29th August, exactly six months after signing with Dolphins.
