Early Life & Biography
Rzeznik was born on 5 December in the year 1965 in Buffalo, New York. He is the youngest of five children and only son of Joe Rzeznik a bar proprietor and postal clerk and Edith. Both of Rzeznik’s parents were artists, playing the flute and clarinet. Rzeznik had a strong Catholic upbringing in Buffalo’s middle-class East Side Polish neighborhood and pursued his education at Corpus Christi Grammar School.
After losing both his parents, he was taken care of by his four elder sisters Fran, Kate, Gladys, and Phyllis with help from John Guljas, their cousin. He paid for his own house using Social Security Survivor Benefit payments. It was during this time that while attending McKinley Vocational High School that he started playing the guitar. Rzeznik shortly went to Buffalo State College, thereafter leaving after his first year.

Career
In the year 1985, John Rzeznik founded the band that became the Goo Goo Dolls with Robby Takac. Initially, Rzeznik had been in a group with Takac’s cousin, called The Beaumonts.
In the early beginning of The Goo Dolls, the group performed at gigs relentlessly, with Takac as the leader (Rzeznik gradually becoming the leader over the next few albums, as each new album had more songs sung by Rzeznik than the previous). They were soon taken up by a small record label, Celluloid. Under Celluloid, they produced their first eponymous album on a $750 budget. This caught the attention of a larger record label, Metal Blade, who produced their next few albums.
