Early Life & Biography
Rzeznik was born on 5 December in the year 1965 in Buffalo, New York. He is the youngest of five children and only son of Joe Rzeznik a bar proprietor and postal clerk and Edith. Both of Rzeznik’s parents were artists, playing the flute and clarinet. Rzeznik had a strong Catholic upbringing in Buffalo’s middle-class East Side Polish neighborhood and pursued his education at Corpus Christi Grammar School.
After losing both his parents, he was taken care of by his four elder sisters Fran, Kate, Gladys, and Phyllis with help from John Guljas, their cousin. He paid for his own house using Social Security Survivor Benefit payments. It was during this time that while attending McKinley Vocational High School that he started playing the guitar. Rzeznik shortly went to Buffalo State College, thereafter leaving after his first year.

In the year 1985, John Rzeznik founded the band that became the Goo Goo Dolls with Robby Takac. Initially, Rzeznik had been in a group with Takac’s cousin, called The Beaumonts.

The Goo Goo Dolls also sang the song “Name” at a live concert with LeAnn Rimes. Rzeznik also sang Pink Floyd’s “Wish You Were Here” alongside Fred Durst from Limp Bizkit for the survivors of the month September 11 as a tribute to the heroes.
On July 4, in the year 2004, John Rzeznik and his bandmates traveled home to Buffalo and sang a free show to give back to their loyal fans, over 60,000 who attended. The day hurriedly became a city victory when the rain came pouring down during their show.
