He was the younger brother of Dick Van Dyke. He appeared as a guest on Dick Van Dyke show and two other on CBS’S The Ed Sullivan Show, CBS made him regular on Judy Garland show.

In 1973 he was cast on an episode of the GE True hosted by Jack Webb. When The Judy Garland show unsuccessfully undamped, Van Dyke left the show and the program. He turned down the offer to play Gilligan on Gilligan’s Island, a role which instead went to Bob Denver. He featured Loves and Kisses in 1965and also co-starred with Andy Griffith in Angel In My Pocket in 1969. During the 1970s, he returned to the stand-up comedy. On 5 January 2018, he died in Hot Springs, Arkansas.
