Former CBA player and one-time forward Tony Dawson of Sacramento Kings and Boston Celtics’ younger brother, and the former Wake Forest University guard Craig Dawson’s uncle, is Stackhouse. From the time he was a high school sophomore, Stackhouse was a premier player.

Stackhouse’s senior year, with the future college teammate Jeff McInnis, he played for Oak Hill Academy, guiding them to an undefeated season. He was a two-time All-America team selection for Parade and was the McDonald’s All-American Game MVP. He and Rasheed Wallace were considered the top players on camp at the 1992 Nike Camp. Some found Stackhouse to be the best prep player since Michael Jordan to come out of North Carolina.
