James Gorman, whose full name is James Patrick Gorman, was born on the 14^th of July 195 in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. His father, Kevin Gorman, worked as an engineer. He has nine siblings, and his sister works as a judge on the Supreme Court of Victoria. Coming to his education, he has attended Xavier College and the University of Melbourne from where he earned his Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Law degree.

His contributions to McKinsey & Company include working on the Merrill Lynch account for ten years and developing Merrill’s online internet strategy. He then went on to work at Merrill Lynch in 1999 as the Chief Marketing Officer and, within a couple of years, became the person in charge of handling Merrill’s brokerage business.
