Roush was born and raised for a few years in the Covington city of Kentucky state, United States. He later moved to Manchester, Ohio, where he spent the rest of his adolescence. He graduated from Berea College, Kentucky, with a bachelor’s degree in physics and minor mathematics. Jack got his master’s degree in scientific mathematics from Eastern Michigan University, Michigan. In 1966, he joined Ford and left in 1970 to start his own business. He also worked at Chrysler, one of the three big automobile manufacturers in the United States, while to grow his own startup.

The entrepreneur has been involved in several plane crashes that risked his life. On his 60th birthday in 2002, Roush had a near-death experience when his private plane Aircam landed in Troy, Alabama. Eight years later, he had another plane crash in Livonia, where he almost lost one of his eyes.
