Ichiro was born in Kasugai, Aichi, Japan.  His father is Nobuyuki Suzuki, who trained him until he attained skills to play with any sports team, and his mother is Yoshie Suzuki. Ichiro and his father began a daily routine that scheduled throwing 50 pitches, fielding 50 infield balls & 50 outfield balls, hitting 500 pitches, 250 pitching machines, and 250 from his father. At the age of 12, he had already decided to dedicate himself and pursue a career as a professional baseball, and their training became more serious. He has an elder brother, Kazuyasu Suzuki.

Ichiro joined Aikodai High school, where his father advised his coach not to ever praise him so as to make him spiritually strong. In 1999, Ichiro married Yumiko Fukushima, a former TBS TV announcer. They got married at a small church in Santa Monica, California. The couple has no children yet. They have a pet named “IKKYU,” which is a combination of “Ichiro and Yumi.”
